Went fishing (bass) yesterday, I managed to catch one small one and almost landed a decent one 3 pounds or so. I caught them on crank baits one rattle trap and one square bill.. Both were caught over grass. I hate em, I hate fishing with crank baits, But this time of year is the best way to catch em on Lake Guntersville. I, for the life of me cannot keep a crank bait rod in my hand. After about an hour of catching those two I noticed that I was dragging a jig along the grass line swapping from jig to worm to creature bait and spinnerbait. I know that crankbaits are the key this time of year but I just don't have confidence in them.

Please help me like them LOL. Any pointers to help me keep these in my arsenal ?

Well, I am with you, DF.

Lures that don't work are much more fun. Take popping bugs, for example; so much fun to "POP" them.

There are a lot of others, of course, but a Bagley's DDKB2 in fire tiger will clean up on any predators handy so you can get back to the fun lures that don't work that day.

Don't really know about c/b's. I would think something suspending, find the depth and work it slow. Real slow in cold water, like below 50?.

Buddy of mine who is a semi-pro guide type fished Mitchell Sunday before last. Carolina rig worked super slow did the trick. He fishes Guntersville a good bit, I can ask his opinion if 'ya want.....

Me, I don't do winter...

Long Minnow stick-type jerk baits are key under 50 degs....about 55 or so we start throwing #4 & 5 Strikeking series (4&5) with Gamakatsu trebles. These baits will dredge bass off of points like no tomorrow...especially rock or gravel bottoms. Last year we found these were working well on mud bottoms well too. Key seems to be to stay in contact with bottom. Crank fairly quick then just stop for a brief second and continue the retreive. we've done well all over the country with these baits.

I've done very well with crankbaits this time of year....Red Eye Shad off the bottom. Let it sink, bring it up, let it sink, bring it up. It's worked for me, we caught 6 keepers last Sunday on Lake Wylie, SC.
