uh oh not good!

while out today my motor was running really good.just rebuit it so i was going at about 3000 rpm allowing a break-in.when out of nowhere the motor just died.stumbled for maybe 2 seconds then out. will not restart. i checked spark in the driveway none on all 4 plugs. i cant find my manual(pissing me off btw). can someone please post the stator check using a multimeter so i can rule it out. im ASSUMING its the power pack. but obviously i need to check stator as well.
p.s. a fella was nice enough to tow us in at no charge the 2 miles back to the ramp.i was in the chesapeake bay!wewwwww.

Unplug the red cannon plug and then check for spark. If you try to start it and it does, you'll have no way to shut it off. Check spark only.

if it starts with the red plug unplugged, you have to choke it inorder to kill it. here's some test procedures, several pages, find the right one for your engine. copy and paste without the "

alright so i found my manual and did the test on the stator. im having a bit of a discrepancy in my translation of the test proceedure.my manual(factory) states:
disconnect leads from power pack #7 & #8
connect ohm meter to lead(brown) power pack #4 & brown /orange #5 meter should read 910 +- 75 ohms. i have white/black #4 and orange #5. no brown or brown/orange. whats w/ that? anyway when i test terminals #4&#5 w/ key off i get 175 ohms and w/ key on i get 875. which do i go by? im assuming 175 since the manual says nothing about having key on, is this correct?
also when i check leads to ground i get no reading or zero. what is infinity supposed to show as on a digital multimeter?
i will use the proceedures tashasdaddy linked me too when i get a chance, the gnats were horrible today.
should i assume the stator is bad from what ive posted?
thanks a bunch for any feedback i can get i dont want to buy a stator if its not needed.

Hate to hear that you're having problems. I went through the stator checks myself, as it appeared that my spark during ingnition was very weak. The guys at the shop must of fixed the problem, becuause the motor starts right up. My problem must have had something to do with the timing. After removing all of the engines ancillary systems for the rebuilt motor, the timimg pointer needed to be reset in order to set the timing appropriately.

When I perfomed the stator (and timing ring) checks, I got values that were in the ballpark but not exact matches to those in the manual. The key should probably be off for the checks since your chcking coil winding resistance, continuity, and possible shorts to ground. On a digital meter, infinite resistance usually shows (OL) or open loop.

Your rebuild was operating fine at first wasn't it? I hope that mine contines to function properly. Right now, I'm glad that I took the boat to a certified Johnson mechanic for link & sync. That performed that, pointer adjustment, timing, and a few other tasks for approx $170.
