I've been searching for an ultra high output marine alternator, but the highest I can find is the 130A model by DB Electrical which is still not enough. I see plenty of 200A - 300A standard automotive ones for sale which I would love to have on the boat..

Does anyone know of a source for 200A+ marine alternators? Anyone ever manually retrofit an automotive alternator for marine use?

Why do I need a 200A alternator on a boat? To run 3 900W marine amps to power my 16 speaker stereo system, of course.. :p

I used to have mine made at the alternator shop. Cost about a third of what anything "marine" had on it. Just tell the guy to add the screen over the cooling vents and now you have a marine alternator. I would recommend making it a self exciter, he will know what that means. You need to run no6 to the starter. The ambulance ones work great. Mostly I installed them on sailboats that were going so sea. They wanted to run the aux an hour a day or so to charge large banks of 8d's and run the inverter.

Re: Ultra high output alternators

your amps are only quoting Music Power not RMS so you would be much better to measure the actual current taken before you waste your money and become a total pain in the *** to everyone on the water ..Audio polution its called...only differenece with marine alternator is that its spark sealed in case it inbibes petrol vapour....why not fit two 130 A ones
