I have acquired a medical ultrasonic cleaner machine in good condition with the intentions to use it to clean hand gun and rifle brass. I have been looking around the web for a good homemade cleaning solution. There are a lot of recipes out there, but I want one that will work and not harm the brass. Any one have a good recipe?

Just so happens that I too love to reload ammo and pour bullets too and have loaded at least half a million rounds throughout the years... I recently saw a guy use standard dish detergent to clean his brass before tumbling it. I was impressed at his results too. The brass looked basically new with just soaking in in a bucket and then rinsing and drying before tumbling... I haven't tried it yet, but plan on doing it myself...

I use dawn dish liquid in mine personally, tho I have also use simple green. Both work well. Make sure to rinse the simple green extremely well if you go that route, I've heard it can cause corrosion if you don't get it all off.

Also heard of using diluted vinegar and water, followed IMMEDIATELY by a run in water with baking soda to neutralize it. This one scares me tho.

in the past few months I have processed around 40K rounds (yup you read that right) and I sell brass on a few sites. I vibe all of mine but my business partner uses an ultra sonic with water, vinegar, lemon juice and some dish soap....... the key is to make sure they all dry off after you rinse.

He built a round tumbler cage from wire mesh and spins & tumbles then he lays them out to dry.

His brass is clean but mine is shiny clean ;) My secret is a cap full of new finish in the walnut media.

Good find on the used ultra sonic which works great on carb parts too!

I thought it would have been just the opposite, more shine with the ultrasonic cleaner. BTW, 40K rounds . Where did you find that many primers? Been lucky to find a tray or two at a time here.

SO...it's Bob_VT who has been buying up all the ammo and reloading supplies... Last month I was at Rogers AR in the Cabela's there. The shelves were about barren in the ammo reloading area. Heck they didn't even have 22's. I reload when I can get supplies, and it has been awhile since I have reloaded.:mad-new:

Three issues I live by; You can never have too much ammo...period! Always buy primers and powder instead of loaded ammo!! And third, buy all the 22 rimfire ammo you can find...always!!! As long as you can find lead (and it is everywhere), you will always have ammo if you bought the primers and powder... I tried to tell folks a few years ago to buy primers and powder and 22's... No need to say anything else!
