Un-installing a car alarm

Hi guys:
I have a 1989 Mazda 323 (no power locks or power anything on the car), which is going to the junk yard pretty soon, but it has a car alarm that I would like to take off of it before I get rid of it.
The only info I have about the car alarm is the remote key chain. It says it is a UNGO brand alarm.
I've looked around online for info regarding it: some info was "don't bother with it, it's a garbage alarm", others say it is a good alarm.
Either way, if it is not too hard to un-install it, and then put it on my truck, I'd like to do that.
I know there is a vast array of members here who do all kinds of work. Just wondering if there is anyone out there that can give me some input about this.
I plan on trying to un-install it today, providing it is not going to take 4 hours to do.

What you want to do is extremely difficult if you do not have the manual that came with the unit. Reason being is that some of the connections are made by cutting into wireing on the car and running the curcuit through the alarm. Meaning that when you remove the unit you must reconnect these wires and it is not always easy to detect which of these curcuits have been broken! You can look at the colors of the wires that you disconnect and then mach up the colors again. You almost never have two wires the same color in todays cars.

alarms are so cheap these days your better off just getting a new one for your new car. Besides.... if you get stuck trying to put in your old alarm in your new car, most stereo shops won't touch stuff that's not theirs and epecially won't touch old equipment.

Without the proper wiring instructions, it would be best to forget about it and buy a new one.

I agree. Either get a wiring diagram, or it's going to be more trouble than it's worth.

Something else to consider is if you don't remove the alarm properly from the car you're getting rid of, it may prevent your car from starting - which may be a problem if you were planning on driving it to the junk yard.

Another option if you can get the wiring diagram is see if you can get a new wiring harness also. Then, maybe you can just disconnect the old harness and leave it in the car and wire everything to the new harness in your truck. That may save you the trouble of following wires all over the place in the old car.

Looks like it is more of a PITA than worth the time! It would probably take my whole afternoon just taking it out of the car...not worth it to me!
Think I"ll just go out and buy a car alarm.

A friend put a new top rated alarm in his new camero, that night the alarm was stolen from the car, next night they took the car,,, again
