Was at the ramp yesterday preparing for launch. Another boater pulls in front of me to prepare his boat. A few minutes later he walks over to me and says he know he pulled in after me but was it ok if he went ahead and launched. I of course said yes, no problem. What was he thinking showing such courtesy!
It was a very busy day at the launch both coming and going all day. From what I could tell everyone was behaving very well! Nice to see!

I have waved a few on behind me - they were ready and I was not - so I said go ahead - although there were 3 open slots so it was not like I was being TOO generous. :)

Re: Unbelievable Ramp Etiquette

I wish someone would come out here and teach a class on ramp courtesy. I am so sick and tired of sitting on the side getting ready and having some jerk pass me to the ramp and prepare ON THE RAMP! I get done and ready to launch, and I can't because they are still getting ready!!

Then there are the water knatts that stand in the water in front of the ramp holding on to their skis while someone goes to get the trailer. Can't they do it at the courtesy dock like everyone else??

The worst is when the jetski's are doing doughnuts 20 feet in front of the ramp that is what makes me get mad :)

Re: Unbelievable Ramp Etiquette

I had one doing donuts in front of the courtesy dock waiting for someone. My friend was standing there on the dock and she didn't budge from her donuts...so I eased my boat in closer and she finally had to turn away when she saw how close I was. Gave me a dirty look, but I could care less...I wasn't about to sit there any longer waiting for her.

Next day there were a couple of teenagers taking their knatts out. There were four people, two JS's. Well, the did the same thing...hung around the courtesy dock. I went to get my buddy off the dock and the one with two passengers on it pulled into the side of the dock I was headed for. The other pulled in front of the dock. I had to back up and aim for the other side...I gave them a peice of my mind and they looked at me like I was crazy. Stupid kids...

I have met one maybe two Jetski owners that where cool but most seem to have no common sence or respect at all.

I have had them run into my boat out in the river, cut me off, circle me while i am trying to fish and other nonsence. Well i have learned a good long piece of rope helps to keep them away abit inless theu like digging out of the intakes :)

Not that i do that but had one circling me suck up my bowline that happen to be in the water

Re: Unbelievable Ramp Etiquette

So far I have had a great time at the docks with other people. I have yet to run into someone rude. Although I now camp near the ramp where all the other campers put in.

One of the times I put in at a public lake, a couple pulls in behind me and asks if they can go around. I was pulled over to the side in the prep area. It baffled me how polite they were, because I was still in the prep area and not in line for the ramp yet.

It's good to have those kind of days.

This is going to sound bad, but it has worked for me.
Around here, jet skiers are constantly following boats into the channel and and cutting closely across the boat's wake to get some "Air" They will literally follow you for as long as you are running.

Have any of you ever "tapped" your brakes on the expressway to get a tailgater off your rear? Well, try getting out of your boat's throttle suddenly and watch what happens to your wake jumpers. No more problems.

Hey TD,

My In-laws winter in Sebastian. They used to own a house in Webasso where the Disney resort is now. That made them decide to move over to the mainland.

You live in a beautiful town. I would appreciate info/advice on rentals and ramps from someone local to the area. I've always fished from the jetties and wading when we've been there but want to check out the river and inlet from a boat.

We probably won't do it this year but usually come down once a year. Thanks in advance for any help. The snook are probably starting to hit by about now I guess?

I'm always nice to others on the ramp, mostly because I know I'll need to ask a couple of them to sit in my truck bed when it's time to get the boat out :D .
Eric
