under floor sections and drains

I just bought a used 1994 Regal 185 (my first boat). I noticed that the area (bilge?)under the inboard 4.3 motor is dry but the area around the fuel tank and further up, like under the driver seat mounting post still has visible water level. Shouldn't this remain drained out and dry. Are there possibly drain channels that are plugged up not allowing it to drain back to the rear drain?

timjbo, I don't know how the regal is constructed but on all the boats Ive been around, and thats quite a few, the have what is called limber holes in the bottom edge of the frames to do just what you suggest.. and yes they do get stopped up and in some cases actually get glassed over or left out during construcion of the boat.. if you don't have them, it sounds like you need them.. no boat should ship stagnant water in the bilge (except maybe a freighter.. ) If your boat is on a trailer, make sure the bow is higher than the stern so the water can make its way back.

Sounds like something is plugged for sure. See if you can find the tube or channel where the water is supposed to run and flush it out with some pressurized water.
