Guys, Hi, hope all is well.

I have a 21 ft grp ecofiber boat with a 270 leg and aq170b penta. i cannot seem to get over 8-10 knots. Engine seems to tick over fine, occasioanlly if i go full throttle too quick it splutters and sometimes stalls. But if i do it slow it creeps upto 3000rpm and thats all i get. i dont have any trim ther than the 3 settings on the leg and i have tried moving passengers forward. i still cant get on the plane.

is there a simple fix or do i need to spend some serious cash? when i bought the boat the guy reckond it was good for 20kn plus???? i hope this was not when it was being towed!!!!!!

THANKS IN ADVANCE Scotty

That all depends on what is wrong with it. There is no ONE thing that causes this problem. Could be simple water in the fuel, and in the carb. Cleaning will have everything working again. OR, it could be the same water over a long period of time has corroded the inside of the carbs, and the game is now very expensive.

Don,

thanks for the swift response. if it is the worst case, will i need to replace the carbs or can they simply be stripped down and rebuilt? this is my first boat and although im happy to trundle along at 6 knots, id rather get to my destination in a day as opposed to a week. cheers :)
