Under rotor and stator question

I pulled my flywheel off to replace my r/r noticed that the stator has a little surface rust as well as the inner of the flywheel.
Should I take a light wire brush and clean both or just let it go I'm sure in the off season this happens every year but figured since while I was there if there's anything I should do?

Of course a little care & maintenance is always a good thing. But the condition you see is not fatal.

Agree: Some of the high amp (35 amp) stators and some of the newer ones are not potted like the older (low amp) stators. Does not seem to affect their performance. (Similar to the 1987 150S model stators.)

Yea the surface rust like I said I'm sure it does it every year I just wanted to know if there's anything else under the flywheel that could use some attention while I'm in there. It's kind of a big day for the old boat hasn't charged itself in years my buddy took it upon himself to hook the battery up for me shortly after I got it 12 years ago crossed the leads and that was the last of charging. Since I trailer it was never a big deal but this year it's getting slipped and lugging batteries down a dock isn't my idea of fun boating lol.

When the leads got crossed, it may have shorted out the combination rectifier/regulator. That would affect charging and tach operation.

Re: Under rotor and stator question

It was indeed a costly one. I now have the batteries in boxes with covers to discourage any "help" from my friends. I don't have a tact mounted permanently I just use the dongle to connect one to the remote if needed but on this engine Ive never needed one its always ran great Just never charged. But it is weird now not having to haul a charger out before a trip. Nice knowing that its good to go. I just have the trickle chargers for minimal upkeep and that's all.
