OK.

I just opened an 150 mariner eng. that ( not told to me ) was left under water for a while. The crankshaft is pitted ( stripes perpendicular to main and rod journals ''3'')

How far will it still be recoverable before having to get it remachined to standard spec's

I measured the rod journal ( the worst one and it's still at 1.185'' with the pitting marks.

I ordered main bearings, rod bearings upper and lower bearings (new).

I won't fool the customer for 800$ CDN i can get a rebuilt crank with a 100$ for the Core.

Thanks in advance.

DO NOT take this as a recommondation, but we have cleaned .001 to .0015 off new crankshafts on our 44 cu. in. class D racing engines to loosen them up, however these engines are ran 24 to 1 and not run on a daily basis

HI Laddies,

Thanks for the suggestion,

I checked the '' UNtouched rod bore'' and the rignt measurement is 1.181 not touched nor sanded or else.

I '' cleaned'' the worst one to find-out that it got down to 1.180 with a possible out of round of .001 max......would you think that this is acceptable for a rever ( 7,000 rpm )

Jacko

Try it.......... worst you can really do is blow up a motor that might well have been dead anyway. :D

-W

It will run OK, just do not know how many hours it will last before "Shaking itself" to death.... after a few hundred hours, I would bet you will have to go in again.
