Underpowered Tracker Pro V16 deep hull?

I recently purchased the above 2009 boat with a 40MP Mercury 4 stroke. I was surprised to learn that I could only achieve top speed of 22mph @ 5800rpm with full tank of gas and 2 normal size adults on board. Boat felt as if it really never got out of the water. This is my first deep hull so maybe this is normal......much different than other pleasure crafts I have owned.......any thoughts would be helpful.....thanks.

I have a 15 footer with a 30 merc, 4 stroke. I can get 25 out of it with full tank of gas and two people. But I really have to be carefull about weight.
If I put my trolling motor battery in the back where it goes It won't come up on plane.

For comparison sake I get 29-30 with 2 adults and full fuel on a 50 2 stroke. Gotta say that the V16 would be sweet with the 75hp max on the boat. 2 stroke of course

Thanks for the feedback......next thing I'll check is to see if my speedometer is working correctly........I'l also check my speed via GPS system once I set it up. As you can tell, I am very new to operating a bass boat and these smaller motors vs. other pleasure crafts I have owned.

I was only able to get about 15 mph with a full tank of gas and two people and I have a 40hp Mercury ELPTO. Alone I was only able to hit about 22mph. I'm jealous. LOL. What size prop are you running?

My father had the same boat and motor. We are big dudes (my dad, myself, and brother are all 6'5" and not featherweights) and it was a bear to get up onto plane.

Put the 75 horse Merc on and it is saaweeettt. Hops up on plain very fast and pushes that boat like a dream.
