i'm getting ready to install some under water transom lights, my boat has bottom paint on it........ will the 5200 still adhere to the bottom paint or will i have to sand the bottom paint off under the lights ?

Re: underwater lights

no harm in lightly sanding the paint to give the 5200 something to key into but remember that 5200 is forever and will tear the paint off if you ever try to remove them. wiping the area with acetone will probably work just as well. Also wear disposable gloves and put tape around the area so the 5200 doesn't get everywhere as it will stick to you hands and it takes days for it to wear off.

Re: underwater lights

What is a "5200"? I checked the underwater light section of this web page and didn't see that number anywhere. I just installed two strips of high intensity LED's from Autozone to the bottom of my swim platform. They are tied into the courtesy light circuit but have their own switch. Cost was $30. They are not underwater, but just above the water shooting down. My night fishing results improved after installing them. They stick on with built in 3M tape and are holding so far. Also have the same set on the underside of my radar arch for extra lighting in the back, again on a separate switch.

5200 is a permanent silicon, 4200 is a semi permanent silicon. both are made by 3m and are recommended by most of the people on this forum who have re-built boats.
