UNDIEN 380. not working, thought it was antenna but switched radios to test. Does the accessory cable (GPS) need to be connected to something ?

So my 380 didn't work well, seemed like an antenna as sometimes I would get the weather when I waited or fiddled, but no calling out. It was never really used by the last guy as he was on a lake, pretty new.
Anyways so once in a while it makes a electronic noise like Star Trek and it will get the weather channel than lose it.
I do notice the accessory cable that comes out taht might go to charge plotter or whatever just looks cut, it doesn't terminate or anything just sits there. Would that cause any sort of issue ?

Otherwise I am surprised the radio would die in a couple of years in storage in a boat that isn't kept outside.

Any tips, I had an old VHF that I hooked to the anntena and I get heard loud and clean.

The accessory isn’t anything.

I would say you have a bad connector but you proved that theory wrong with the second radio.

Then again, a bad connection can burn out a radio transmitter. The only way to rule out a problem with the antenna is to test with a antenna meter
