Hi guys, i purchased a boat, back in the stern i found some kind of control unit on it says reverse lock operation to release turn knob to right ,to en gage turn knob to left,it has a solnoid and motor looks like it had hydraulic lines running to it. Anybody know what this unit is called ,and what was it used for thanks

More information about the type of engine setup you have would be useful (outboard, I/O etc.) but it sounds to me like the hydraulic pump and control I had on my old Merc 70 hp outboard from the early 80s. It was mounted under the splashwell against the transom and would allow you to "unlock" the hydraulic system in order to manually raise the engine. The reverse lock will keep your engine from lifting while in reverse. On outboards without hydraulic trim a mechanical locking mechanism is engaged while in reverse. With a hydraulic system, it's the pressure in the lines (I believe) that keeps the engine from lifting in reverse.

It was on a boat i bought, there was nothing hooked up to this unit ,it was mounted like you said it was on yours .i did notice a handle ,up by steering control with merc control on it ,motor on boat when i purchased it . Is 60 hp johnson. I would say you are correct .what it was used for.do you know name of this unit .is it obsolete now ,or is it still be used. Thanks
