Universal joint replacement

I have twin SP drives with power trim on a 1989 houseboat and will be removing the drives to replace the trim cylinders. While the drives are off I am considering replacing the u-joints as well - as insurance since I hope to not pull the boat out of the water again anytime soon.
The Volvo drive manual illustrates removal/replacement of the u-joints during repair of the upper unit, ie, with the upper unit separated from the intermediate unit. Question - must the u-joint/yoke assembly be removed from the double bearing housing to access the aft u-joint? I don't want to take the upper unit apart if I don't have to.

I believe you can do it. The housing could very well be in the way a bit. depending on the rotation of the clips holding the joints in. I've done them on my 275 but not on your model.

Good luck!:)

Thanks, gents. I'll post a message after the work is done in a couple of weeks.
