Universal power Tilt & Trim?

I have a 40 hp Johnson that did not come with power tilt and trim. Is this something that can be added? Are there "universal" units that will fit any outboard. Are there OMC specific units? If so, how do they mount? Where might I find a unit if it does exist? Just wondering if anyone has any experience in a retrofit like this?

Give us a model year or model number. Johnson made a whole lotta 40s for a whole lotta years. Some had PT/T available, others didn't.

I know that my motot did not come with a power trim because it is a 1982 OMC military. I have refurbished it as a Johnson. I am wondering if there is some sort of universal mount that I could use on this unit since OMC did not produce a civilian in 1982.

Re: Universal power Tilt & Trim?

I have the CMC tilt/trim unit on my 75 horse Mariner for a year now. Awesome piece of equipment. Bolted on in minutes. Watch for deals on Ebay. List price is around 450 bux. You can get them with or without the trim gauge(approx 80 bux difference) The only thing I would trade it for is a new boat with factory tilt/trim on it. For boats that don't have it, this is definately the way to go.
There are 2 sizes. One for smaller motors like 20 to 50hp, and the next size up for 60 to 130hp or so.

Great investment for me. Huge performance difference from the available adjustment. It's all one complete sealed unit with wiring and a switch for up or down control. No extra lines or reserviors to install.

Check it out.
