Re: universal starter switch?
You just get a new universal outboard switch. Get the push to choke if you've got an electric choke and want to combine that in the keyswitch too. Modern outboards work by grounding out a kill switch wire. So you use the ground and kill switch terminals on the keyswitch for each magneto line. They still label these two terminals 'M' for magneto.

So your typical switch is labeled:
B - this goes to +12v on the battery. Probably one of your original S terminals leads here.
A - Accessories, things you want to get power when the boat is 'on'. About 15A max depending on the switch.
C - Choke, goes to the electric choke. Only on "Push To Choke" switches.
S - Start, goes to small solenoid terminal. Probably on one of your original S terminals.
M - Magneto, use one of your M lines.
M (Sometimes big or otherwise idenitified) - Magneto, goes to your other M line.

Simple, huh? The important thing is to get a switch made for an outboard, since inboards and other systems usually supply +12v to the ignition system, which you really don't want to do.
