Universal Tilt/Trim motor and pump

I don't know a lot about outboard tilt/trim setups and I did not find my answer in a search so I ask,

As long as the hydraulic cylinders are OK, is it not possible to take almost any trim motor and pump and mount it inside the transom while running new lines from the new pump to the cylinders?

Seems like any easy fix but I can find nothing on the web.

It would depend on the system.-----Yes I have mounted the Mercruiser / Mercury outboard pump and reservoir inside the boat for the mid seventies OMC trim units.

What things would vary? If the pumps are all 12 volt I suppose that would only leave pressure? and the number and size of the hose fittings. Anything else?
