2005 Tracker Pro Guide V16 WT. 50 HP Mercury
Met a guy at Lake Mead to preview above boat. Boat fired up immediately and ran great for the next hour or so. Put it back on trailer, bought it, and towed directly to my home, and there it stayed.
Week and a half later, topped off tank with 89 octane gas. (Oil level full)
Put in 1 bottle each of fuel stabilizer and carb cleaner.
Put boat in water, very hard to start. (plenty of battery) Squeezed fuel bulb several times and had to choke it hard to get it going. From there, top speed=9mph. Boat barely ran and kept dying at idle.
When I put the boat in nuetral and and gave it throttle, I got high RPM's. As soon as I dropped it into gear..... the boat ran like it was trying to tow a battleship.
The boat ran like that the rest of the day. I'm a novice boat owner, but I have had some experience on my cousin's similar boat.
I can't fathom what the problem could be. I HAVE checked many topics and of course, see that the problem could literally be anything. I have a hard time though with the boat running perfectly 1 day, and the next day it's in the water... puuuhhh.
1 thing... while attempting to troubleshoot, I pulled the quick release fuel line off the motor. When I did, a small amount of fuel squirted out and upwards on me. I don't recall that happening on my cousin's boat.
Am I missing something simple, or is this just incredibly bad timing?
Thanks in advance!
