I have a 1961 40 hp Lark lll with elec. start. Inside the top cover, where the wires from the power box enter the engine are two wires (1-yellow,1-green), that are not connected to anything and are tapped off on the end. What are they for, and are they important? Thanks in advance.

Re: unknown wires?

Could that be yellow and blue? The motor is pre-wired for the accessory generator kit. Those wires would go to the generator if you had one.

Re: unknown wires?

They might be for a generator to charge your battery, I have a 58 super sea horse and there was a factery add on back then, the stock ones didn't come with one I'm assumming but I know on my motor I have three wires sitting in the motor taped up and I cross referenced it with the wiring diagrams and that is where the after market gen would have gone.
