In old post someone told me that my 1988 70hp evinrude was unregulated because the volts where climbing up to 16 at high speeds with a new battery. Idle or low speed volts at 14.5 - 15. <br /><br />What is a unregulated motor? Is this normal?
That's correct.Your particular engine has a voltage rectifier but not a regulator.The charging voltage output is in relation to the rectified a/c voltage from the stator which flutuates with engine rpm.
So this is normal? I don't remember the volts going so high. I'm using a deep cylce battery, is that why I "smell" the battery after a time at high speed. Should I change the rectifier or just load the batery now and then?
