Hey all,
i'm a relative noob at outboards but i've managed to get this engine running pretty well but it's still not quite there yet though. The last time i had it out i was able to clock it at about 35kph (20mph) but it just seems like it should be able to do better. i started researching and figure that i should be able to push the 14' fibreglass LoneStar that i have at about 55kph (35mph) though i'll settle for somewhere in between. i spent some time over the weekend re-setting the throttle syncronization and needle valves but they seem to be right. i notice on my last trip out that the RPM jumps arbitrarily. i pulled in and ran it and took a video. Can anyone identify some possible causes? i'm leaning toward timing but want to make sure before i pull the flywheel off. i had replaced the points and condensers already but perhaps i just didn't get it set right. i'm also considering a vacuum leak (i do see a bit of fuel that leaks from the carb somewhere but it seems to be coming from the air intake so i've chalked it up to a bit of flooding when starting).
i've put an editted version of the video i took here for review.

i'd appreciate any suggestions and thoughts.
thanks in advance,
dean
