Serial Number 5534190 , 1980's (Unsure of age) Mercury 50HP.

What Carbs belong on this motor , What part number(s) ?

Set of carbs that came on the motor when bought....

Top
617A1 on one side BA3BT814 on other side

Bottom
6517 on one side BA3B814 on other side

He got a siezed extra engine that came with the working one(above). It is the same motor just younger. (Ill try and get a serial for this one too)

Top
6517A7 & BA3DT201

Bottom
6517A8 & BA3D151

We have a Gasket/Seal carb kit x2. We want to find out what belongs on the Serial Number 5534190 motor and rebuild that set.

Thanks,

OK, Serial number indicates an '80 or '81. The '80 model shows a carb of 6517A61 or 6517A62. These are center bowl with built in fuel pumps. Crowleymarine did not have a listing for an '81 model.

Sorry, not much help here.

Yeah I saw the same numbers but was hopping someone knew mabey if these would interchange somehow or something. Before I post here I check Iboats, Crowley, boats dot net, Marine engine , Mercury parts , mercruiserparts.com and others.

But im stumped, the boats runs fine with the ...

Bottom

On it but it has a problem where it will idle fine for aittle bit then start to stumble and fail until you pump the primer abit. Other than that the motor has no problems with take off , mid range , high RPM areas.

Carbs finally got gummed up so I wanted to make sure what belonged on the motor and put the kit into that set. Which set of what we have would you say to rebuild?

EDIT:
The carbs that came with the engine have .096 idle jets.

The carbs from donor engine have .092 idle jets.

Crowley says..

.096 for united states 5796395 and below

.092 for united states 5796396 and up

He was using the donor carbs (.092's) , so with the 5534190 # he should be using the .096's. Might be why the idle was off and had to keep messing with the primer to hold a idle every no and again. Think so?

Very well could be the trouble. What is the SR# of the donor motor? The PO might have changed the carbs around rather than rebuilding the ones that was on the motor. Oldman570

Well from what you say, that the motor takes... "The '80 model shows a carb of 6517A61 or 6517A62."

6517A61 and 6517A62

1)Is that the Top and Bottom carb? Or two different kinds as sets?

2) Are any of the sets from the numbers I gave compatible with the motor?

Like I said they run fine but have a idle issue which I believe to be fixable by using the missing brass baffle (That were in the other carbs).

And using the .096 jets. (Instead of the .092 which he was using, and had the idle trouble)
