I picked up a 90 horse merc to replace the 65 I have been using and noticed some differences. Both are 1965 so I thought they would use the same mercontrol and harness. The first thing I noticed was that the mercontrol plug does not line up to the motor plug. The bigger male ends are off and one of the smaller prongs is also off. Some horsing it and a twist got it on, but not all of the way. Next when I attempted to start the motor nothing happened. Thought the battery was dead but it was fine. Decided to see if at least the choke worked. I pushed the button and the motor turned over. So I have no choke but the motor will start if I turn the key on and push the choke button. I don't want to head out to the lake with my wife and children until I have this solved, and they are pushing me to get it done, since my employer eliminated my position and I have lots of time to take them to the lake. Any ideas? Thanks again for your input.

i am not a 100% sure but something is crossed, your two larger male or female prongs are for the battery to solinode, not much you can do exept put other motor back on or change harness to match new motor, but they cost alot, that is why i haven't bought a new harness for my boat almost $300 for my 1978 mariner inline 90hp. but good luck
