I learned yet another lesson from the book of OMC!! I took the advise I got here and continued to work on this old 1956 3hp despite the low compression numbers. (60 and 62lbs)
I put in new coils, and nothin'... then I put in plugs and wires, all new... nothin'
Completely rebuilt the carb.... nothin'
The last thing I could do was the OMC tune-up kit #172522 (points and condensers) and BAM !!! started first pull and I have run two tanks of gas through and all RPM's with no skips, or coughs!!!
Let me offer this to the frustrated tinker crowd, the old points and condensers looked brand new, and I was not going to replace them.
Now this 54 year old motor is as ugly as a mud fence, but may just be the best running motor I have.
