I know I've been a pain, one even called it SPAM. It's far from that, but rather a person who bought a boat and was fearing it was a lemon.

Anyways, had the compression test done on the 50 hp Johnson/ Evinrude. Thank goodness, it checked out okay. Part of my posts that I forgot to mention is that he had the same gas sit for 2 years. It was stabilized, but still likely went bad. The previous owner just put 1/2 old fuel with half new fuel and gave us the boat. It caused gummed up carbs, likely.

It probably now has 15-20% of the old fuel and 80% new fuel. Should we just start with a new tank, or will we be safe to run out the old gas without gumming up NEW rebuilt carbs.

If it were mine. dump the old gas, clean out the tank, wipe it down with a stick and a rag. Let it dry, then blow it out with air. Then refill with fresh gas. I just did mine for the second time. Used a 2 gallon can I had for my Jeep and guess my son had used it for something and had a bunch of crap in it. Had to tear down the carb and reclean it plus did the tank as well. Good luck.
