Just an update that hopefully will help others, my force 85 would not idle in the water but was fine on the driveway with muffs. A friend of mine was a merc mechanic for years and steered me in the direction of a stuck ring. He suggested " merc power tune" full can per cylinder. Ran it with muffs and followed his direction, what does it hurt three cans were $20.00. Immediately the engine sounded different but seemed more boggy. Finished up running it and took it to the lake. Wow, idles like a dream now. I would never have believed how nice this motor runs. Hopefully this can be a fix for some of the others on here with idle issues

That's great!!!
Sounds like carbon buildup!
In the old days, the oil would burn and carbon up the rings and eventually ruin the piston/cylinder.
Now theTCW-3 issupossed to not do this.
If it's set up right it shouldn't really need this.
What's the compression??
Where are the air screws set?

It's called de-carboning which can also be done with straight shots of seafoam into the carbs or if you are really stingy even plain water in a spray bottle will do. Carbon build up is exacerbated by improperly set air screws.

I do agree that poorly set needles and such will cause carboning but in this case the previous owner hadn't run it in about 3 yrs and never stabilized the fuel

Never heard of an engine accumulating carbon while in storage but then again every engine has its own history. Lol.
