Sorry this is a bit long, I just had to cry over my spilt milk.

Spent two really nice days on the water Friday and Saturday. Yesterday was really nice too. Got out at 9:30 and did some skiing, picked up a buddy and cruised a while. Met up with another guy who just got his new engine put in and were hanging out at the sand bar.

We did a few adjustments and headed out for a cruise. We were gonna show him how to get around, where not to go, things like that.

So, I let my daughter take the helm and I am chatting with my buddy when I feel the boat start to dig. I asked Autumn why she trimmed down, she replied, "I didn't". Uh Oh:eek: Trying to avoid panic mode, I take the helm, trim the drive up and watch the needle go back down. A couple more times of this and now it doesn't move period.

I shut her down, my buddy pops the hatch and the resivoir is empty. He starts giving me a hard time about not being a good Captain and not performing my pre-trip checks. But I did. All fluids were good. About this time, my youngest daughter wants to go for a swim so we close the hatch to sit and scratch our heads, when, yep, you guessed it, OIL SLICK:eek:.

We got to the trailer, got the boat up to just about where the skeg wants to hit, ratchet strap the drive up and inspect the lines. My hydraulic line is cut. I don't know from what or who (I am hoping not a who) but it is definately a cut. It is up in the collar where it could not have been hit by an object.

Now, I can't get it into the shop until Monday next week and they don't know if they will have it done by the weekend following.:(

Well, I guess I will be hitching a ride with my buddy next weekend. Wonder if I can get a steel braided line that is cut resistant:rolleyes:

I feel a little better. Thanks for letting me bend your ear.;)

Wow!! Hey where were you when you had the trouble?? I have found several "objects" this year between the dixon dam and the treastle bridge south of Moonlight Bay.

Well that is a pain in the butt.
Mind you, those lines are super easy to replace, I don't know what drive you have but most hydraulic rams should be self bleaders (air removal, just run it up and down, remembering to keep your fluid level up)

I was sitting at the sand bar down at the golf course. I did not hit anything. Well, nothing big or hard. I imagine I could have caught something just right in the sand. But I would think any object big enough and strong enough to cut that line would have at the very least found one of us when we shoved off.

I only saw maybe a half dozen "floaters" all weekend. Almost hit one, but missed.

Where the line is at, I don;t believe that even if I were to hit something it would come anywhere near the hose.

Were you out over the weekend? The water was really warm. Finally. Nice skiing in the mornings.

I have the Volvo Penta SX. The line is readily accessible on the ram. Not so easily accessible behind the drive. Or at least it doesn't look it.:(

I told myself the last time I had that drive off I would never do it again. It is a little harder than the Merc I had.

I don't know though. I am prettty impatient. And the forecast for the weekend looks really good.

The line is only about $100.00 and I could have it here by Friday.

I was out Saturday. Was running up and down from the sand bar to Woodland Shores. My daughter and a couple of her friends were tubing. I wanted to go........yeah, my lil girl, she's still no too sure of herself.
There was a HUGE cabin cruiser out there. She was driving and hit one of his roller waves at full speed. I truelly thought we cracked the hull we hit so hard. she didn't wanna drive after that.

Last time I was there the sand was pretty clean. I can't think of anything that would cut one of those lines like that, not in the water anyways.

Probably one of those scuba divers who jump out of the black helicopters cut it while your daughter was driving. I've heard they can swim really fast.

Bummer. I busted a water hose last week and had to put the boat in the shop. I certainly know how you feel.

Sorry about your bad luck.

I inspected the situation last night with a calm attitude:cool:. I wanted to really get a good look at the lines and see if it was something I wanted to do. Decided it was not too bad. Got the drive ready to come off, got the line off (if my hands were smaller, I think I could do it without pulling the drive) and I am ordering new line this morning and should be back on the water Saturday.:D

Thanks guys:)

Re: Update:I might be on the water by the weekend

Well, I am getting closer to being on the water by Saturday.

We decided to go ahead and change the hos ourself, thanks to a little help from kenmyfam:redface:. We pulled the drive last night and found that the other line next to the one that was cut is ALMOST cut. And then we found the exhaust bellows has three holes in it. They are on the bottom of the bellow in a perfectly straight line.

So, after much head scratching we have come to the comclusion that I hit something sharp in just the right place. Or wrong pplace I guess you could say.

I have new lines on the way and are to be in Friday morning. I am going this afternoon to pick up the new bellow and try to find the right tool to get the housing off.

I did have to humble myself and ask for a little direction up in the "it's broke, please help me" forum.

So, itsaboattime, maybe I'll see you out. What kind of boat do you have? I'll keep an eye for ya.

I have an old tired 4 winns. Shes light blue and sun faded. She has an '87 evinrude 110 on the back. The plan is to get enough cash together and do a restore. The floor is solid but my interior(seats, carpet) have seen better days. I plan on being out Saturday most of the day. Depends on traffic, I am going to head out today. Do a lil fishing.

I'm not saying it is your case for sure, but the older AQ series volvo drives have a drain hole in the exhaust bellow. If yours holes look perfectly made, there may be no reason to replace it.

Or just do it while you're in there:)

On my "help" post, someone said that some bellows purposely have holes in them. I inquired this with the dealer I bought the boat from and he verified that those ARE supposed to be there.

He said they allow the exhaust to escape when the boat is in reverse and water pressure inhibits the normal flow.

SO, I don't have to replace it. Just the trim lines.:)
