I have a sea king 15 HP by Montgomery motors I have cleaned the carb and played with the float got it started and it sounded sooooooo much better now 2 more problems have evolved...

1st one is it can only run 10-1 min always different then will sputter out bulb will be soft and ican pump it until I can here it fill the carb bowl I took the fuel filter and diaphragm out filter was plugged horribly bad and diaphragm lood good to me but I don't know what a bad one would look like. started it up again sounded even better and steady ran for about 2 min then sputtered out again and that's were I noticed the 2nd problem

The 2 cylinders get so hot that it sizzles when water splashes on it. that's when I called it a night and don't want to go any further I know they will get hot but I have a feeling not that hot...

were do I start??

thanks

Re: update on problem motor

i would start out with replacing the impeller might also make an adapter to attach a garden hose to the tube that goes up from the water pump into the power head and flush things out just do not turn on too hard

I just dropped the lower end and looked at the impeller it looks brand new some ones replaced it cause its a 6 point I believe but what I didt get is the stainless plate that goes below it pretty much seals up any water that could get to it?? as far as the hole strait above the prop I can blow up it and have air come out were the hole is above it... im stumped

Your Chrysler-built Sea King should NOT get hot enough to sizzle water. But I don't know off hand whether it has a thermostat or not.

Just a thought: Is the key in-place between the impeller and the driveshaft? If not, the shaft will turn and the impeller will sit there doing nothing.

If your in a test tank be sure the water is above the pump.
Check the intake.
