My engine overheated at high rpms and it has been running a bit funny lately (it doesn't want to idle very well). Last night it melted some tape touching the engine block. Luckily I ran out of gas when I did (or maybe that was the cause of the overheat? Fuel starvation). How fast would an over heat happen at 3000rpms? After an hour and a half it started up hard and then ran like a champ at low speed for 3-4 miles. I just had the water pump replaced recently and it seems to be sending water though the engine, but I am getting steam. I haven't checked the temp of the water coming out. Also it has been at least 2 years since the engine has been timed and it is a 88 evinrude 150. Thoughts? oh current ocean temp is 42 degrees.
