Wow she's a beaut!:D

Is that all new mahogany on the console? Great boat, even better you kept it in the family for years to come. Nice work.

Yes - all new mahogany. I had restored this boat once already in the early 90 s . taken out the wood and sanding it all down and replacing it. This console and seat were a gift to me from my Mom and sisters for my 40 birthday and fathers day last year and it is all a tribute to my late father who passed in 1992 - but loved this boat since he purchased it in 1969 - the year I was born. We spent many a fun trip out on it - and it feels great that it came back to this condition with a lot of hard work the last 3 months. It was worth all the effort and yes - it will remain in the family for years to come - and will never again see another night outside the garage:) - Paul Libassi - originally from Long Island NY - Now residing in Orange County NY

Thank You soooo much - Yes I understand about the wife situation - I had to pull strings with my wife just to finally restore this project that has waited in the wings over 10 years until after we re did a foreclosure. One thing at a time I guess. Next project is a 1966 Chevelle total resto thats in the garage waiting. I have to wait a while to talk wife into that project too LOL.:D

Nice job man. Could you post some pix showing the seat behind the console from several angles? I'm trying to decide what kind of seat set-up to go with in my restoration and I'm always wanting a look at different options. Seeing your pix makes me want to do two, smaller seats in my boat...just like your one seat...but never seen one up close. Thanks in advance if you can do it.

Re: Updated pictures on restoring dads old whaler

I will post more pics for you - Just to let you know also - I did a quicky cleanup of this boat around 1998 when the original seat was beginning to really rot, and put in two rotating captain chairs. I placed wood planks across the mounting wood for the seat cleats for a fastener and screwed to that so that I wouldnt put extra screw holes in the floor. I hated the two chairs. I thought it was uncomfortable and I didnt care for the look of them either. I am actually going to sell them. They are in mint condition and white. Me myself, chose to put factory style stuff back in - but believe me - one complaint I have always had about this style whaler, although I love it because it was my dads, is that there is little to no room in them. Paul, I had a 1964 Currituck (side console) model That I bought used (6 mos. old) and it had every option that Whaler was offering back then.
What might be of interest to you was the white painted wood decking, similiar to duck boards forward of the console.
The center section was hinged into two hatches for wet storage below or they could be lifted out which created a bench seat on each side up front.
With the hatches in place you had a nice casting platform.
They sat on the ledge right below the bowrail lower mount.

If your interested I'll dig through my old pics for a view of them.

BTW nice Whaler, it looks brand new.

Thank you Dennis - Sure - I would love to see the pics if it isnt too much trouble. It is so neat to see how many different options there were back then. I am also kind of more interested in re-viving old stuff that I can easily maintain including cars and boats - versus newer computer controlled - fuel injected nightmares that cant be diagnosed or repaired yourself often. I still like the character of the old boats and cars too. Next project will probably be throwing together a tow vehicle/beach buggy jeep or something.

Slick setup. Your dad had a grand piano up there. Nice wood work.

It's cool to still have a piece of your something your father loved...
