I know very little about transducers, so hoping maybe you can answer this.

My '85 Bayliner Trophy came with a factory depth finder (branded Trophy with the boat's logo on it ). It has a through-hull transducer caulked to the inside-bottom of the hull. I also have an Eagle Ultra (mid-90's model) which is much nicer and more advanced. However, the transducer that it came with is the type you mount on the transom. I don't really care for that....
So, can I hook the original transducer to the newer unit, or are there differences that would make it incompatible? Thanks!

maybe if the manufacture is the same, many differ in plug/pin style...

Different manufacturer. Plugs not a problem, I can either get additional plugs for the Eagle and make an adapter, or take what I have and spice the wiring.

I just wasn't sure if the actual signal to/from the transducer is the same (like maybe an industry standard) or proprietary...

Re: Tranducer question

How you describe your current installation appears to be a "shoot-through-the-hull" arrangement. If you are contemplating having to modify the coax or the terminal ends in hopes of making your existing transducer compatible with your newer fancier electronics, I have a sneaking suspicion you're wasting your time. Also, if you you use the right accessory made to mount newer transom mount transducer, you'll be much happier.

There are many different types of transducers and they work on different frequencies. It would be very odd if you found 2 that were compatible, unless it was the same make and model.

IIRC, transducer cables should not be cut/spliced. The transom mount might also give you water surface temp which is a nice feature.

As Jim said, I wouldn't bet on them being compatible. You would have to dig deep into the technical specifications of both before you could be certain.

Yeah, that's what I sorta figured, that they probably wouldn't be the same. :)

I suspect the Trophy branded original "flasher" is made by eagle also. I have found some pics that look a LOT like this but are eagle branded...

Yes, the current setup is through-hull and I kinda prefer it... Thanks for the info!

A 200kHz transducer is a 200kHz transducer. I'll bet good money that you can cut the connector off one and use it on the other.

The pin outs on the two units might be different, but you only have a positive and a negative wire with a shield to deal with. You have a 50/50 chance of getting it right the first time.

That'a absolutely true. Now all the OP has to do is find the specifications for the 2 units to verify tsat they are both the same kHz.

OK...first two pics are front/back of the original Trophy branded depth finder. There is nothing identifying on it. I have *ALL* the original 1984 paperwork including the receipt and sales brochure, but there is NOTHING about this depth finder. Again, this is a factory installed unit, and the Trophy logo is the same as on the hull... Note that the right side plug is a standard RCA jack, that is from the transducer

This is the mid 90's model Eagle Ultra. It has way more features, and I've decided this is the one I would rather have dash mounted. It's old, yes, I know. But I have zero need for a newer model that really isn't a whole lot different. On this, I do have all the paperwork. But, no specs whatsoever. Google isn't any help either.

So, 10 points to the person to identify the first. :) Any any ideas on specs for the second?

Re: (Updated) Tranducer question (pics in post 12) can you identify?

1985 was close to the end of the era for flasher sounders. Ray Jefferson and Aqua Meter were making them then, not sure about Lowrance. My 1985 and 1986 catalogs show both to be 200 khz. Also, they were USA made. Since yours says Made in Japan, its anybody's guess. But since its a shallow water unit its probably somewhere's near 200.

I have an Ultra III and its dated 1996. It's a 192 khz, but they make an optional model that comes with a 50. They look identical but have a different catalog number. Since I have the 1996 catalog I could reference the numbers if I need to know. Yours is an older model though, and not in my catalog.

Not much help, I know. If you have a local service/repair shop that fixes depthfinders you could go there and I'm sure they could test the units to see what frequency they are. Or, why don't you just go buy a new one. A couple years ago I bought a Humminbird Piranahmax for my fishing boat and liked it so much I bought a second one and gave it to my son. Only cost about $89.
