I have a 1989 four winns 170 freedom. I bought this boat in may and its a little rough inside. I was gonna put a new floor in and recarpet and new seats. The floor above the fuel tank is a wafer board and is broken. Wad looking at going with plywood.

Just looking for advice, tips, and ideas from the experienced guys out their. Like my boat and wanna keep it for many years.

Thanks guys!

Re: updating advice

My advice would be to first start reading the forums, search for other projects similar to your boat. I've spent over two weeks reading and reading and reading. It really is a non stop learning process. I read a thread last night that was 39 pages long! There's some great information from many people with a wealth of knowledge on here.

Start reading the "How To" stickies at the top of the resto forum main page.

I'll bet that when you start reading some of the resto threads and then start poking and digging agound in your boat you'll find you're in for a full restoration and not just a facelift.

Wafer board isn't used in boat building and is evidence that a previous owner didn't know what they were doing when the patched on your boat, I'm pretty sure you'll find some other unpleasant surprises as well.

... but don't worry, it can all be fixed and when you're finished your boat will be like brand new and will last for many many years.

This is what you're probably looking at to get your boat where you want it:

Re: updating advice

If there was OSB (wafer board) plywood over the gas tank, I also suspect there has been previous work done on this 4Winns.

You'll want to thoroughly inspect the stringers & transom as you demo the deck.

Pix when you get a chance.
