updating ignition

Finally found why my 84 140 MerCruiser was missing and I want to update to electronic ignition. As a test I ran a jumper from the hot on the solenoid to the positive on the coil and it ran great and took the gas without a sputter, so I want to switch it out. I assume my resister wire has lost its punch. Does NAPA have something I can use? Thanks

Hi
You should check if they recommend a resistor wire on your electronic ignition, I know delco doesnt on their HEI or EST ignition.
Regards
Affa

I'm sure NAPA can order something for you - I recently changed over to a Pertronix system. Most marine or auto parts stores can order a kit for you. I bought mine from JC Whitney - look online and you can get some good prices. It is very easy to change over.
