After reading some excellent post on this site and the repair forum, I have raised my motor two holes, taken off a Stingray fin, and seen a world of improvement in performance. I have an Evinrude 100 XP on an 800 lb. hull ,18' Starcraft V-180 bass boat. The above, and clean carbs, has taken the rpm's from 4,900 to 5,700+ and probably a speed increase of 10 mph. I will check that with a gps. However, I still have a porpoising problem. Now it doesn't start until I reach about 5,200 rpm's. The trim gauge is not even up to the level setting. I can trim down to stop it but that puts a little too much bow in the water and hurts the speed. I put both trolling batteries all the way up front and it does make some difference. I am running a 23" pitch SST. Would a raker give me a little more lift and keep the nose down? Also would I need to drop a pitch with a raker? Some info on the tabs looks good but I would like to know the proper way to approach this.
