I have a 20' Bluewater open bow and wanted to add 2 6x9 Kenwood speakers that i purchased. I currently have:
a sony head unit
1 300 watt max fosgate amp
1 12' fosgate sub
2 6.5" pioneers

I was thinking of installing the speakers in the bow but water is likely to get in and wet the speakers so i don't think that will work. Not sure where a good place to install the speakers would be. Any suggestions would be helpfull and pictures would be great.

Thank you.

We can't see your boat. Only you know where the dry spots are. There are marine speakers however. I'd like to know where you have that 12-foot sub mounted. :)

Re: Upgrade stereo system

I'm setting my cuddy up with 4x 6x9 3 way speakers with polypropylene cones and a cheap sub with a 100watt wal mart amp. I'm going to run a head unit that's one of the mp3/usb/iPod hybrid radio/CD players (also cheap) on it.

The sub is going in my cuddy (closed bow) and the amp near it, and the 6x9s are going to be on the sides of the boat, fore and aft, but roughly equal to the pilot's seat in the front.

The polypro speakers, like those meant for car doors, will take quite a bit of water provided they can drain. People have used them for speakers in showers at home.

If you mount it well slightly recessed it'll handle the bow area ok.

Personally, my speakers are $10 cheapies anyway, and I expect to have them last a couple of years at most.
