A recent Ebay auction stated that by adding 225 carbs to a 200 it would improve horspower. Does this sound right? I have a 1991 Rude 200.

It's a little more complicated than that Salty. But even if you ran a 225 next to your 200, I doubt you'd see much of a difference at all.

Unless you have some sort of performance boat (Hydrostream, Allison, STV, Mirage etc) I doubt you'd see the difference.

Are you on the rev limiter now?

Re: Upgrading a 200hp to a 225?

I may be getting ahead of myself...I put the 200 on last year and have yet to straighten out a tach problem...maybe a rectifier? So I don't know what the rpm at WOT is. I was reacting to an impulse after reading the claim of swapping carbs to get 225 performance. Boat is a bit slow to plane but it's a 3100lb Trophy with ALOT of gear ...but tops out at a respectable 30 knots, which is actually satisfactory. I know I need to sort out the tach to check my prop spec. to see if I can improve out of the hole. Again...just an impulse that I wanted to take to the experts for an opinion. Seems any gain would be marginal and probably not worth the expense? Thanks

Putting on larger carbs will most likely hinder acceleration from what it is now. On that boat it probably wont show any top end gain at all. It may well be faster at the end of the day from being lighter because of the extra fuel burned.
