Just got a '98 Sea Ray Rayder F-16 that needs the seats re-done. We took it to one of the local shops and they quoted about $900 to re-do all upholstery without new foam. Apparently it's still in good shape.
Does that sound reasonable?

Thanks.

I build pontoons and I can tell you the most expensive part of the boat next to the engine is the furniture.

Maybe shop around and see what else you can find, 900 just to recover does sound a little high to me though.

Thats high...it will save you some if you remove the seats, front isnt bad rear seats remove from inside the engine compartment, bench seat is a royal pain, its a combination of fasteners located in engine compartment and then you have to stretch your arm under the bench from engine compartment, after there removed, look at reupholstering in Sunbrella,as opposed to vinyl, for one you can order the fabric on-line and save the up charge, and it will save you $$$ not having the shop remove the seats.

How many seats?

I had my Jeep's 3 seats redone. I paid $450. I choose a top notch material, which was about twice as much as some of the other options. It took 6 yards of material at 26 bucks a yard. So, with thread and cording, I'd guess there was about 200 bucks in materials. With that said, the labor was well worth 250 bucks. The seats look great

if you take it to a boat upolstery shop the price is higher. go to an auto seat cover shop. they do many boats, and much cheaper.

The price doesn't sound out of line to me...but there's a big difference between fancy pillow seats with fancy pattern designs and regular seats with nothing but piping...or without piping. Don't take the fabric off to get the job done cheaper without asking the shop first. They may need to reference them.

If you use Sunbrella it will eventually let water in and soak the foam. The water resistant coating wears and it leaks. Sunbrella is better used for tops where you can keep the fabric tight to shed water...or on interior cushions.

Alright, thanks.
We took it to another shop today and was quoted about $200 less than at the first shop.

Make sure they use stainless or monel staples, hog rings etc...Auto uphostery shops usually don't. Cost difference is only a few $$ for an entire job.
