I live in Arizona - and hear you can save 50% by having your boat upholstered in Mexico. Anyone have any knowledge or expierence with shops there?

might be a good idea if you were going to Mexico for a vacation, and you were driving and towing your boat there, otherwise shipping a boat to mexico would be very costly, and no garantee you would ever get it back

The problem with that, as I understand it, is what to do with the dozen illegals that come back hidden in your boat. ;)

You can save even more by sending the work to China and have 10 year old school kids do it

Actually though the internet is full of material suppliers and if you have a sewing machine give it a go.

Mike

Sure,
Their work looks good, but I hear they substitute all the foam padding with burro dung.

Re: Upholstery Shops

The answer was to take the boat to Yuma, AZ. Right across the boarder from San Luis. I contacted an employee in a big boat store there and he gave me the name of the shop they use for all their work.

The $3600 estimate I got from my local dealer became only $1500 on the Mexican border using identical materials.

(There is little child labor in China, because they can hire adults for the same price they can hire children. I go there regularly.)

(Everyone has heard of the strange stuffings used by Mexican upholsters, but nobody has a first hand knowledge of someone who was cheated there.)
