upper crank bearing 225 looper

I recently overheated my '89 225 looper due to a bad impeller and not paying attention to it. It didnt seem right after that, so I pulled the powerhead to re-torque the pistons and make sure there was no damage to any of the bearings. I found the upper crank bearing rubbing against the crank, it protrudes out of the assembly by about a quarter inch. It was good that I pulled it before any real damage occured to the crank.

While I have it apart, I want to replace the bearing set, they just dont feel right to me. I dont see any rust or debris, #2 piston looks good. It's more of a precautionary measure to replace them.

I do not see the bearings listed in my parts manual. They list the entire assembly (396668) but not the bearings individually.

Does anyone know if you can get just the bearings and if so, what the part number would be?

Thank you.

dont remember what year they changed the bearings, but they went to caged bearings. in other words, they dont sell loose needles any more. so you will have to use the caged ones. they are a direct replacement for the loose ones you have now. believe me, it is so much easer.

That's the only way you can get them from BRP. You may want to get the bearings out of the housing and find a parts house that specializes in bearings only and they may be able to match them up.

www.promarineusa.com, part number 495, 1-800-631-8861.

They will sell to individuals, Evinrude does not sell the bearing without the upper housing.

They press in and out easily. Use a large socket to press with.

The guy that nymack linked to is selling the same bearing.
