Motor is a 94 Johnson J200stlerk. I was draining the lower unit to replace for the winter, and it came out milky....again. It was fixed about two years ago, because the plate below the water pump was worn out and the upper drive shaft seals were chewed up from the play. The seals were changed and a new plate put in by a shop. Well, I checked the prop seal it seemed fine, and then dropped the lower unit and took the water pump and plate off, and noticed that the top seal on the upper drive shaft had pretty much completely came out. It came out by hand before I even unbolted the bearing assembly. I took the assembly out and noticed that there was alot of black silicon holding the bottom seal in, in the area that was between the two seals, and also on the bottom of the bearing assembly. I cleaned it up, both the seals are in good shape, but the top seal will not stay in, you can pull it out by hand. I am sure as soon as I start it up and run it the seal is going to move right back out to the plate, so do I just need to silicon it back in or is there a better fix?
