I saw this marking on the Upper Gear Case when I removed the outdrive this weekend:

Upper Case
21 17

Any comments on this to help me Identify this outdrive?

The 21/17 is the gear tooth count of the OMC Stringer drive. in your pic.

Thanks Reel. I am hoping to determine whether I have a 190 HP or 225 HP. Does this number narrow it to one or the other? It is off a 1974 SkipJack. At present there is a 96-98 Chevy 5.0 2BBL Rochester.

Is there something else on the Drive that might distinguish between the two Drives?

Do you have the serial or model number off the engine?

That should be the 800 series, which is for the V-8's.

1974 - 190 hp - 21 / 19 Upper
1974 - 225 hp - 21 / 16 Upper

Reel, No I don't. Engine replaced within the last 5 years with a non OMC Engine. The drive I have is a High Profile and 5 bolt Exhaust Cover which is SUPPOSED to eliminate it being an 800.

The 190 HP engine was a Ford 302 motor and the 225 was a GM 307 engine.

The 1974 drive is correctly named an, OMC Electric-shift "Stringer"

Thanks Reel. I think I have just about nailed it down now. You gave me a good piece to the puzzle.

Hey Reel! I just clicked on the link you supplied. It was my first document I found that resembled my drive. Since then I have noted the High Profile Stringer shown on page has a different shape Pivot Cap Cover then mine and it shows no Bumper on the Pivot Cap Assembly where I have one. That page was invaluable in my research.

Below was my first OMC Drive Reference:
