I have noticed some side-to-side play in my upper end main bearing that I can feel and hear when I push / pull on my flywheel. There is also a noticeable noise and corresponding high frequency vibration that can be felt if you place your hand anywhere on the motor between 2000 ? 4000 RPM.
Motor was rebuilt this past winter and this issue started after the 1st 1 ? 11/2 hour of break-in. I did not replace this bearing as it did not exhibit any of these symptoms before the rebuild. I did replace the seal & o-rings however.
I would like to remove the bearing assembly and inspect & troubleshoot cause as well as crank journal without splitting the case. I thought I had heard that the upper bearing assembly could be removed / replaced without taking the case apart.
Would anyone know if this is possible or have experience and success in having done it this way? Seems that you would have to let the motor bake in the sun and freeze the bearing assembly to reassemble successfully, if at all.
Thanks for any input.
