Upper oil seal leak?

1996 40 hp 30 Jet....have the classic symptom motor wont run with cowling on....replaced all lower gaskets. Now when it runs I have oil leaking down from the top and the exhaust leaking from upper seal under flywheel smells strong and burns your eyes. Anybody ever heard of this? What's the solution? Thanks.

Serial # is ?----I doubt that you have exhaust leaking from the upper crankshaft seal.------You have major , major problems if exhaust leaks there !!----Is there a wee oil return line from bottom of the block to the upper bearing ?----Perhaps that is leaking.-----Time to inspect and have a look at that hose.
