Sorry, I hit the wrong button. here is the rest of the message.

Here is a picture of it. http://s55.photobucket.com/albums/g121/mikenoonan456/?action=view¤t=OUTDRIVE_SEAL_2.jpg
It seems to be sealing a small compartment behind where the water pump is. Any idea what this is? Should I reseal it that way or leave it as is? If I should reseal it what should I use?
Thats your water pump dam it keeps the exaust from getting into the water pump

There is a part in the upper also

On older drives it was aluminum and then changed to rubber at some point

http://www.boatfix.com/merc/Servmanl/14/14b3.pdf

Around page 78 will tell you all about it

Your look pretty rough could use some cleaning and outdrive paint

tommays
Thanks Tommays. So if I read the manual right I can buy a rubber filler plug to replace my aluminum dam. Do you have an opinion on whether that is worth it? Is the part expensive?
