Upside down oil filter change

I have a local Volvo Penta mechanic that is giving me a remote oil filter setup. The filter does sit on it upside down hole facing down. Does the trick of loosing the filter let it drain the oil out of it? (I do not have a problem waiting a little for that to happen) I have seen people say both ways.
Looking at using the NAPA Gold filters and they do have and anti drain back valve on them. I am hoping that just loosening the filter or even punching a hole in it will let the oil drain out of it. If so that would make for a clean filter change!!

For this style take a spike, screw driver or other thing and punch a hole in the top of the filter and it will all drain back to the pan

Fantastic! does that even work with those filters with a anti drain back valve in the filter? I hope, I hope! If so these could be the easiest type to change. I ALWAYS seem spill the other ones when they are full of oil! I hate getting oil in the bilge.

I have not had a motor with the upside down, but there have been many post which say it works great. The drain back is in the area where the hole gets punched, so maybe punch just a tad more.
