first the controls
so I hooked up all the wires to there right spots to the motor then there is a 4 wires(red/blue, orange, black, purple), when I turn the key nothing, there is power going to the motor but doesn't seem like the controls are being powered up, now if I run a wire from the bat to the red/blue wire then I have power but the wire gets really hot, its a 12 gauge wire. (doing this the motor starts normal)
do I have to power the controls this way?
if so what gauge wire do I need its about lets say 10ft.

now the real problem

when trying to fix this wiring issue I had the motor running in a tub and noticed water geting into the lower cowling. This was no big deal cause I know I have a bad gasket I need to change out that the power head sits on as Im looking over the motor I notice a hairline crack on the power head about a 1/4 inch above the base. so I cut the motor off and do a compression test, 120 on both top and bottom.
is there a way to seal this off or is the motor scrap.
mind you I have had problems with the motor for some time now.
but when it was runing when I seen the crack it was running great.

A hot wire generally indicates too much current from the power source. As far as your compression, should be 145ish. I had 110 on the top and 30 on the bottom. You may have a ring problem. Where is the crack at? If you
decided to keep running you need to watch it very close.
