Hi,

I'm going to put the powerhead of my '78 55 HP Johnson together. When I was pulling it apart a lot of bolts had the white corrosion on it and were hard to remove.
I thought of coating all bolts with coppergrease when rebuilding because it lubricates and it can withstand higher temperatures (it's also used for lubrication of brake parts on cars).

So my question is if this kind of grease can be used on the materials the powerhead is built of (kind of aluminium or so). Anyone an opinion?

Thanks

Are you in salt water? Are the bolts steel or stainless? If they are stainless, copper in with aluminum and stainless is not good. Galvanic action will make for more corrosion. PTFE plumber's pipe dope works very well and will not cause any corrosive action.

I use it in fresh water only, and the bolts are steel. I'll look if I can find this PTFE plumber's pipe over here. Thanks for your help!

Any hardware store should carry PTFE paste. It comes in a small container with a brush applicator on the cap.
