Used Maxum Boat

I found an add for a used Maxum boat that says the following.<br /><br />1994 MAXUM 1700BR, 17' CLEAN BOW RIDER WITH 125 FORCE O.B. NEW COVER AND PERFECT INTERIOR <br /><br />I don't know much about Maxum except that they are the same company as Bayliner. They are asking $5400 for it. It is about 2 hours from me, so I wanted to ask the pros before I trek all the way out there. Anybody have experience with this boat? The dealership said they did a full check out and it is right on the water. They said they did a compression check and it checked out. They give a 30 day warrenty (for what that is worth I don't know). They also said they would have the boat in the water for me if I wanted to come out to test drive.<br /><br />Thoughts?????<br /><br />Thanks guys. Great board.<br />

yes, Aaron they are mabe by the same people as bayliner....when these boats are kept out of the weather they can look VERY nice for a used boat....but remember, this boat was originally sold on PRICE, not quality...typically these types of boats suffer from a lack of care........check the floor for soft spots, bounce the motor on the transom,see if it flexes, turn on everything an see if it works, and if the boat is off the trailer when you get there make sure you look at lights, tires,winch,etc....last is the motor...something is 'off' right from the start...force built 125 model from 1984 to 1988.....then they were 120's after that....did someone put an earlier motor on this boat? why? these boats were usually 'prepackaged' with a motor right from the factory......it should cold start easily, idle hot or cold without stalling, accelerate without bogging to a max rpm somewhere around 5000 rpm's....if the motor doesnt do even ONE of these things, dont buy until it is rectified and proven with another lake test....good luck.

Some of my friends had a Maxum and it seemed like agreat boat all the years I skiied behind it.
