I recently came by a used Minn Kota Turbo 40 (27 lbs Thrust - Serial: MKJE0156862 according to the label), but I have no other info on this unit and don't know when it was sold originally or the best parts sources.

The motor ran well initially, but then started quitting intermittantly. A peak under the "hood" revealed a chafe and a kink on/in one of the primary battery leads which I plan to replace.

Inquiries to Minn Kota have come up empty ... they don't acknowledge my requests and a telephone call got me nowhere.

1. Does anyone have any info on what year this motor was built?,

2. At 8 to 10 ft battery lead length, should I bump up to 8 guage or order a stock 10 guage replacement harness from a local dealer?,

3. What amp circuit breaker would this require (if it requires one) and where are sources for these?.

My thanks to anyone and everyone who can point me to some good info on this motor.

Yes - a circuit breaker or fuse is required to a trolling motor. Place it at the POS terminal of the battery. 30A should be sufficient. Circuit breakers are available at any store that sells boating/fishing equipment. 10 ga wire should be fine and there is not need to buy anything from a dealer. Wire is available at the same store you buy the breaker from. Parts are probably available from MinnKota and as long as you have the serial number, they should not have a problem providing them provided the motor is not decades old. Otherwise you might have to check trolling motor repair shops.
